Watauga High School Homecoming Activities through October 17
The Watauga High School (WHS) Student Council hosts Watauga High School’s last annual homecoming in the old high school building, with activities scheduled through Saturday, October 17. The 2009 Homecoming theme is “Let the Games Begin…”
The festivities kicked off with Homecoming Spirit Week, which ends with Class Day this Thursday, October 15.
The homecoming parade will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, beginning at Horn in the West and traveling through downtown Boone.
The parade has historically begun at 4:00 p.m., but the time was changed this year because WHS will not be in session on Friday, said WHS Student Body President Dylan Russell.
“Each float is going to represent a different game board,” Russell said, adding that the parade also includes cars, the marching band, the Pacers dance group, cheerleaders and the football team.
Mr. and Mrs. Whitaker, longtime WHS teachers, will serve as grand marshals of the parade, Russell added.
The final homecoming football game at the old WHS will take place between the WHS Pioneers and Fred T. Foard Tigers on Friday, October 16, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
The homecoming king and queen will be announced during the football game, and admission is $5.
The public is invited to attend both the parade and the football game.
The homecoming dance will take place on Saturday, October 17, from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m., and only current WHS students may attend. Tickets are on sale now before school and during all lunches and cost $20 for one person or $35 for a couple.
Dance decorations will reflect this year’s homecoming theme, and students will “walk through Monopoly and then the world of Clue,” Russell said.
The main part of the lobby will be Candyland, and Guess Who and other games will be represented as well, he added.
