On August 1, the Appalachian High School Class of 1952 Reunion took place in the Perkinsville Baptist Church fellowship hall.
Sixteen of the original 62 class members, as well as their guests, attended the reunion. Special recognition and a memorial prayer were offered for the 22 departed classmates.
Former N.C. Gov. James Holshouser, who was also the class president, led the group. Roll was called, and written comments from members who could not attend were shared with the group. George and Nellie Wellington catered a banquet meal, and enjoyable memories were shared by and among the group.
Holshouser proposed a challenge, which was followed by a discussion, regarding ways the Class of 1952 could be involved with and contribute to the new Watauga High School, specifically in the areas of math and science. Bob Gilley additionally challenged the class to make contributions on behalf of the class.
