Company Expected To Close on Green Park Inn Sale in December

The historic Green Park Inn in Blowing Rock is currently under contract for purchase by a company from Charlotte, said Bracky Rogers of Rogers Realty, which has facilitated an auction of the property since it closed in May.
The company is in the due diligence process now and should close in December, Rogers said.
“It’s going to be restored and made into some beautiful stuff,” Rogers said. “Everybody is going to be happy with it.”
Opened in 1882, the Green Park Inn is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and has hosted such prominent guests as Herbert Hoover, Eleanor Roosevelt, Margaret Mitchell, Calvin Coolidge, John D. Rockefeller and Annie Oakley.
A live auction and concurrent online auction were held on July 30, but the owner at the time, Ronnie Wrenn, rejected the high bids at the live auction and online. The property went into foreclosure in August to clear the title to the previous owner, Patsy McCain, because Wrenn had defaulted on payments on a lease-to-own arrangment.
Rogers said the Charlotte company’s first bid had been rejected but that it then submitted a higher bid after the foreclosure that the owner accepted. Rogers declined to disclose the amount of the bid but said he expects that figure will be revealed at a later time.
