Stewart Simmons Fish Fry Sunday
Do you have a taste for fresh grilled or smoked Florida mullet? The Stewart Simmons Volunteer Fire Department will host a fundraiser fish fry this Sunday, October 25, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the fire station/community center in Triplett.
Florida firefighter John Rigney and friends—part-time Powder Horn Mountain residents—plan to net baskets of schooling mullets in Florida waters and rush the lot packed in ice to the Stewart Simmons fire station.
The Floridians will grill and smoke the fish while Stewart Simmons firefighters serve the mullet morsels along with cheese grits, coleslaw, drinks and desserts for a donation of $8 per plate for adults and $5 for children under 12.
To reach the fish fry, take Old Highway 421 in Deep Gap to Elk Creek Road and go slow down the mountain to Triplett. Turn on to Jakes Mountain Road at the Triplett Convenience Center, cross the bridge and turn left to the fire station.
For more information, call the fire station from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. weekdays at 828-264-1112.
