Here Come the Holidays!
Christmas- and Holiday-related Events in Coming Weeks

Believe it or not, the holiday season is off to a start in the High Country, with several holiday-themed events taking place in the next two weeks. Here’s what we’ve come across:
Christmas Craft Sale in Lansing Friday and Saturday
A Christmas Craft Sale will take place at the Lansing Fire Department this Friday and Saturday, November 6 and 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.
Items for sale include handmade clay beaded jewelry, decorative Christmas trees, birdhouses, barn stars, greeting cards, canvas paintings, holiday t-shirts and sweatshirts, paper crafts, canvas totes and many other items. Everything is handmade by local crafters.

Valle Crucis Holiday Market November 14
Valle Crucis Elementary School will host a Holiday Market on Saturday, November 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Enjoy holiday shopping for items such as jewelry, kitchenware, art, coffee, stationary, quilts, photography, wreathes, stained glass, baby gifts, home decor, cosmetics, handbags, homemade spices, puppies and puppy treats, organic play-dough, ornaments, ironworks, homemade furniture and much more.
Food will also be available for sale. An organization dedicated to breast cancer awareness will hold a bake sale, and several school children will sell items to benefit their own charity.

West Jefferson Holiday Parade November 14
The annual West Jefferson Holiday Parade, presented by the West Jefferson Lions Club, takes place Saturday, November 14, at noon on South Jefferson Avenue.
Pete Yates, parade chair, said the parade will likely include more than 100 units. Featured in the parade will be the Ashe County High School Husky Vanguard Marching Band, more than $2 million in firefighting equipment, churches, civic clubs, dance teams and, of course, Santa Claus.

Kwanzaa Celebration November 17
The ASU Office of Multicultural Student Development will host a Kwanzaa Celebration on Tuesday, November 17, at 7:00 p.m. in the Blue Ridge Ballroom of Plemmons Student Union at ASU. The event will include info about the symbols and traditions of Kwanzaa, an interactive music performance and a Karuma, or feast. For more info, call 828-262-6252.
Christmas Craft Sale November 18 and 19
A Christmas Craft Sale will take place at the Harrill Senior Center in Boone on Wednesday, November 18, and Thursday, November 19, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Crafters ages 60 and up are eligible to participate in the sale.
