Appalachian Voices Hosts Open House November 19

On Thursday, November 19, the community is invited to Appalachian Voices, located at 191 Howard Street in downtown Boone, to meet the staff and learn about environmental issues in Appalachia. The Appalachian Voices’ Autumn Open House, which runs from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., will feature live music, light refreshments and a brief overview of its programs.
Appalachian Voices is a regional nonprofit organization that brings people together to solve environmental problems having the greatest impact on the central and southern Appalachian Mountains. Their main focuses have included ending mountaintop removal coal mining, cleaning up air pollution, protecting the Upper Watauga River and other waterways from industrial pollution and helping citizens sustainably manage their forestlands.
Appalachian Voices recently received national recognition from Google Earth and GOOD Magazine for its work on iLoveMountains.org, a website they helped create to end mountaintop removal coal mining.
