Blue Star Mothers Charter Local Group
Charter members of the Blue Star Mothers of the High Country are Debbie Branch, Kimberley Isler, Gail Walker, Brenda Hollar, Kathleen McFadden, Tammy Miller, Beverly Broschinski, Dottie Reneau, Lois Proctor and Peri Moretz. Photo submittedThe first meeting of the Blue Star Mothers of the High Country was held on Sunday, November 8, at the National Guard Armory in Boone.
Mothers of military sons or daughters serving in all branches of the service and residing in Ashe, Avery or Watauga counties were invited to the meeting. Much enthusiasm was evident with those attending. Officers were elected and plans were made to sponsor a float in the Boone Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 12.
For those unable to attend the chartering meeting, the next meeting will be Sunday, December 13, at 2:00 p.m. at the National Guard Armory in Boone.
Blue Star Mothers is a national organization founded in 1942 with the purpose of supporting sons and daughters in the military as well as each other. The group participates in activities such as mailing cards, letters and packages to service men and women.
Charter officers for the Blue Star Mothers of the High Country are President Debbie Branch, Vice President Peri Moretz, Recording Secretary Kimberley Isler, Financial Secretary Genie Brown, Treasurer Brenda Hollars and Chaplin Gail Walker.
Branch chaired the organization of the club along with support from a number of mothers who were interested in chartering a Blue Star Mothers Chapter in the High Country.
The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday, December 13, at 2:00 p.m. at the National Guard Armory, located at 274 Hunting Hills Lane in Boone.
