Won a Title—Now a Jug Up for Grabs

The playoff berth and conference championship have been captured, so now is time for the Mountaineers to win a jug.
At 3:30 p.m. this Saturday November 21, the Mountaineers host rival Western Carolina in the battle for the Old Mountain Jug. The Mountaineers have won the jug 22 times in the last 24 meetings.
Even though the Mountaineers have won the conference crown and a playoff berth, this game isn’t one they will take off. The FCS playoff committee will be preparing to choose host teams, and the Mountaineers want to be on that list.
Coach Jerry Moore said he doesn’t think there will be a letdown following last week’s 27-10 win over Elon.
“I think our team has been one this year that we’ve struggled through some ball game and last month we consistently got a little bit better and a little bit better,” Moore said. “You always guard against a letdown, but it isn’t something that’s paramount with this group. Every indication is that our players want to keep get better and keep improving.”
Moore said his staff won’t treat this game any different, so the normal starters will continue to play.
Getting other players in the game to rest the starters isn’t an option.
“We don’t even think about something like that,” Moore said. “We’re approaching these guys just like we would anybody else. We’re going to try and play our best because we know that they will.”
Western Carolina comes into the game as the last-place team in the Southern Conference, and the Catamounts are last in the league in scoring offense and offensive yards.
Quarterback Zack Jaynes leads the team with 1,624 passing yards and eight touchdowns.
