1992 Olympic Silver Medalist Paul Wylie to Skate at Sugarfest

As part of Sugarfest, 1992 Olympic figure skating silver medalist Paul Wylie will take to the ice at Sugar Mountain and perform two short exhibitions on Saturday, December 12, at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
The public is invited to watch the approximately 10- to 15-minute exhibitions and to get Wylie’s autograph free of charge, said Kim Jochl, director of marketing for Sugar Mountain Resort.
The only cost is the usual skate ticket price for those who want to skate at either the 10:00 a.m. or noon skate sessions while Wylie is also on the ice.
“We’re honored and really excited to have a silver medalist coming to Sugar Mountain, especially in an Olympic year,” Jochl said.
Wylie will be accompanied by a few aspiring young skaters under his tutelage, Jochl said, adding that Wylie, who lives in Charlotte, trains and coaches young ice skaters from across the country.
Sugar’s ice rink is located next to the Dave Nixon Pro Shop adjacent to parking lot D.
Admission to Sugarfest, which takes place Saturday and Sunday, December 12 and 13, is free.
Sugarfest activities will include a snowball eating contest and a fireworks show, which are also free of charge and open to the public, Jochl said.
The only costs are for those who opt to ski, snowboard, snowtube or ice skate.
Other celebrity guests scheduled to appear at Sugarfest this year are Diann Roffe, Olympic alpine skiing gold and silver medalist, and Krista Schmidinger, two-time alpine skiing Olympian.
Roffe and Schmidinger will both be special guest coaches during the 16th annual Adult Pre-Season Ski Clinic, held on Saturday.
