3rd Annual Appalachian Women’s Fund Luncheon December 8

The 3rd annual Appalachian Women’s Fund Holiday Luncheon for Members and Friends will take place on Tuesday, December 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Crave, located at 203 Boone Heights Drive in Boone.
The cost for the holiday luncheon is $15 per person and a cash bar will be available. Those interested should RSVP by Wednesday, December 2, by calling 828-264-4002.
Attendees should bring a gift for a woman in the community valued from $25 to $50 to the luncheon. Gifts will be distributed to female clients of OASIS, WAMY Community Action and Hospitality House.
Gift ideas include warm clothing, scented candles and bath items, and the gifts should be marked with its contents and size, if applicable.
The importance of circles of women helping other women in the community has never been more timely, said Cathy Williamson, public relations coordinator for the Appalachian Women’s Fund.
“In the time of all the budget cuts, our agencies are hurting more,” Williamson said of local nonprofits.
“They’re getting hit from both ends,” she said, explaining that even as budget cuts limit the services the agencies can provide, more people are in need of those services.
This year, the Appalachian Women’s Fund distributed a total of $55,500 to local nonprofits for programs to help women and girls in the Appalachian Mountain area.
Williamson encouraged all persons interested in learning more about the Appalachian Women’s Fund to attend the holiday luncheon.
“It’s a great opportunity for people to learn about what we’re doing and to meet other philanthropic women in the community,” Williamson said.
