Doors will open at 7:30 p.m., with the concert beginning at 8:00 p.m. Admission is free.
This concert marks Anderson’s eighth year conducting the Appalachian Symphony Orchestra and will consist of two musical pieces.
“We are performing Beethoven’s: Violin Concerto, which is 45 minutes long, and Respighi’s Pini di Roma, lasting 20 minutes. Together, the concert will consist of 65 minutes of music with no intermission,” said Anderson.
Beethoven’s Violin Concerto was written in 1806 and contains three movements: “Allegro ma non troppo,” “Larghetto” and “Rondo, Allegro.” The piece will feature soloist Nancy Bargerstock on the violin.
The Pini di Roma, by the Italian composer Ottorino Respighi, was written in 1924. This piece combines four movements, which were written to portray the location of pine trees in the city during different parts of the day.
“It is basically a musical poem without text and includes different themes in each movement,” said Anderson. These movements are titled: “I pini di Villa Borghese” (Pines of the Villa Borghese), “Pini presso una catacomba” (Pines near a catacomb), “I pini del Gianicolo” (Pines of the Janiculum) and “I pini della Via Appia” (Pines of the Appian Way).
The Appalachian Symphony Orchestra is made up of 100 people, mostly students from the ASU School of Music, along with a few people from the community and one faculty member.
“We are all very excited about presenting this program and hope everyone is able to attend and enjoy it,” said Anderson.
