High Country Healthcare System Hospice recently received a grant from Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church of Blowing Rock, allowing the local hospice office to purchase up-to-date books and pamphlets on death, dying and grief.
“A death, dying and grief loaner library is an expectation for all hospices across the nation,” said Virginia Peurifoy, hospice chaplain. “We were able to purchase dozens of books for every age group, including children, to assist families and friends through a natural, but difficult time in their lives.”
The library includes topics such as: death and dying, caregiver stress, children, disease and pain management and grief support.
The new resources are available for checkout to anyone in the community, from individuals to professionals. A list of the books in the loaner library will be available at the High Country Hospice office, at the local library and by clicking to www.highcountryhospice.org.
“The response to the library has been wonderful,” said Jennifer Johnson, bereavement coordinator. ‘We welcome you to drop by our office and check out our hospice library!”
High Country Hospice works closely with the school system, the Council on Aging, local hospitals, healthcare providers and community churches in providing information on death and dying as well as on grief support services. If you have questions about the loaner library or need additional support, contact Jennifer Johnson, hospice bereavement coordinator, at 828-265-3926 or click to www.highcountryhospice.org.
