Festive Friday in Blowing Rock December 11
At Festive Friday, which takes place from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 11, in Blowing Rock, you can find Santa Claus, hear The Night Before Christmas read aloud, enter a gingerbread house contest, buy your Christmas tree or wreath, hear roving carolers, win prizes, shop late and enjoy other festivities.
“Festive Friday: A Hometown Holiday” is sponsored by the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce.
“We have it all going on in downtown Blowing Rock,” said Nancy Santay, chamber board member. “There is something for everybody to do, and we see this event as a way to say thank you to our local residents. They can enjoy so many festivities, have dinner and shop late.”
Carolers from Blowing Rock School, First Baptist of Blowing Rock, Rumple Memorial Presbyterian and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church will begin singing at 5:00 p.m., and Appalachian Evergreens will sell trees, wreaths and garlands.
The former Mast Candy Barrel location on Main Street will host the entries for the gingerbread house competition. Builders of all ages can drop off their masterpieces and fill out entry forms, and voting will start at 5:00 p.m., with proceeds from the contest to benefit the Hospitality House.
Sure to put you in the Christmas spirit, join Mayor J.B. Lawrence and his wife Lynn at the Community Library for the reading of The Night Before Christmas, starting at 5:30 p.m.
Santa arrives at 6:00 p.m. at the former Mast Candy Barrel location and is eager to hear what kids are hoping for this Christmas.
Chamber Executive Director Charles Hardin said, “We know how hard it is for residents in Blowing Rock, Boone and the surrounding areas to shop and eat downtown during the peak tourist season. This is a great opportunity for locals to come out and enjoy their town, local merchants and restaurants.”
