Gerardo Paz To Display Abstract Paintings at BeansTalk
The abstract, mixed-media paintings of Gerardo Paz will be on display at BeansTalk Coffeehouse in Boone
Artist Gerardo Paz will exhibit his colorful and abstract mixed-media paintings at BeansTalk Coffeehouse in Boone Thursday, December 10, through Thursday, December 31.
Paz, a native of Mexico, had his work featured in an exhibition in Boone for the first time in November, when 10 of his pieces were included in a display in the Watauga Arts Council’s Open Door Gallery at the Jones House. He plans to show his work at the Jones House again in January in an exhibition that will include his organic sculpture.
“This is my dream,” Paz said, pointing out that his childhood dream was to have a big art exhibition in a museum. His mother and brother have always supported and encouraged his artistic ambitions, he said.
Paz’s paintings incorporate oils, acrylics, crayons, found materials and other elements. Using found objects helps cut down on material costs, he added.
All of the works on display at BeansTalk are available for sale—maybe a little reluctantly, Paz noted. It’s hard for artists to part with their art after pouring so much of themselves into their creations—in his case, suffering and other strong emotions, he said.
But, Paz said, he creates art not solely for income but for the sake of art and culture.
“I want to promote culture here in Boone,” he said.
BeansTalk Coffeehouse is located at 352 West King Street, across from the First Baptist Church parking lot. For more information about Paz’s work, email mexart_paz73@live.com.
