Fire at Peddler Steak House on Tuesday

At 1:28 p.m., on Tuesday, December 8, the Boone Fire Department received a call because smoke was issuing from The Peddler Steak House, located at 1972 Blowing Rock Road, said Chief Reggie Hassler.
Watauga Medics and 18 firefighters from Boone Fire Department responded to the call, and the fire—which originated in the kitchen area—was under control in about 20 minutes and completely extinguished after three hours, Hassler said.
“The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental,” Hassler said, adding that no one was injured.
Property damages were estimated to be $100,000 and content damages were estimated at $85,000, Hassler said. He estimates that repairs will take four to eight weeks.
Hassler thanked Blowing Rock Fire Department, which sent one fire engine and five firefighters “to stand by at Station Two in case we had another call,” he said. Photos by Sam Calhoun and Patrick Pitzer
