Mountain Pathways School Launches Fundraiser for Bus
The bus will be nicknamed “The Hatch” in honor of Eric Hatch, a founder of Mountain Pathways School and ASU psychology professor who was killed in a car accident in August.
After 22 years on the banks of Howard’s Creek, Mountain Pathways School is finally “going mobile.” No, there won’t be a change of address, but there is—for the first time in the Montessori school’s history—a bus.
“We have talked for years about how badly we needed a means of getting our students out into the community and the world,” said School Director Glenn Grizzard. “We found this bus in Lenoir, and it was such an amazing deal, we couldn’t pass it up.”
The 24-passenger bus will be named “The Hatch” in honor of one of the school’s founders, Eric Hatch, an ASU psychology professor who was killed in a car accident in August.
“Eric’s contributions to Mountain Pathways were immeasurable,” Grizzard said. “It just seemed fitting to memorialize him with this symbol of the school’s success, growth and intellectual freedom.”
The school has launched a “Catch the Hatch” fundraising campaign to cover the costs of bringing the bus up to state standards, as well as the high costs of insurance and maintenance. To contribute to the Catch the Hatch fund with your credit card by PayPal, click to www.mountainpathways.org, or mail contributions (made out to Mountain Pathways) to 453 Howard’s Creek Road, Boone, NC 28607.
Mountain Pathways is currently accepting applications for the spring semester, which starts January 4, 2010. The school serves children ages 18 months to 12 years of age.
