First Baptist Church of Boone Provides Annual Christmas Day Luncheon
For more than two decades, First Baptist Church of Boone has provided a Christmas Day Luncheon. What originated as a meal for the homeless has grown to become a festive annual event open to the entire community and feeding more than 400 people. In the past, guests from China, Poland and South Africa have participated.
The 24th annual First Baptist Church Christmas Day Luncheon will take place on Friday, December 25, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall. No reservations are required and the meal is open to all and is free of charge.
The luncheon provides an opportunity to spend Christmas together, celebrating God’s greatest gift: His love for all of humanity through the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah.
The First Baptist Church’s Ministry Committee plans and organizes the luncheon for many months, but it takes an army of volunteers to make it happen on Christmas Day, said Lois Strickland, committee chairperson.
“Our church members make a large variety of homemade dishes and help with many hospitality services that day,” Strickland said. “We also have many volunteers to help and they are not members of First Baptist.”
The luncheon is a wonderful example of many hands sharing together for the good of all, she added.
The meal includes a full traditional menu with many side dishes and desserts. If requested, meals are also delivered to those who are homebound and to those who have to work and who may not be able to come to the church. Also, transportation to the luncheon can be provided upon request.
First Baptist Church of Boone is located at 375 West King Street in downtown Boone. For more information, to volunteer or to request meal delivery or transportation, call the church office at 828-264-2441.
