Holiday Movies at the Meadowbrook Inn

The Meadowbrook Inn, located at 711 in Blowing Rock, will host free holiday movie showings this Friday and Saturday, December 18 and 19, at 7:30 p.m. Friday’s feature will be The Polar Express, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000, Jim Carrey version) will be shown Saturday.
During both movies, popcorn and drinks will be available for $2 and $1, respectively, and children attending a movie must be accompanied by an adult, said Vicky McLean, general manager of the Meadowbrook Inn.
The inn began showing weekend movies on Friday, December 4, and the response has been enthusiastic, McLean said.
“Now that the Hayes Center closed, we’re trying to fill a little bit of that gap,” she said.
Being able to see a movie in a cozy setting is a perfect compliment to a day of “skiing, sightseeing or shopping,” she added.
Dinner and a Movie Nights
From Saturday to Wednesday, December 26 to 30, Meadowbrook will host “Dinner and a Movie” nights from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m., offering a complementary movie, cash bar and dinner for $10, which includes food and a soda.
“Dinner and a Movie” nights will also take place on Friday and Saturday, January 1 and 2. Movie titles are currently being selected, and those interested should call the Meadowbrook Inn closer to the show dates, McLean said.
“We wanted to have some things for families to do in the evenings and a low-cost option for dinner,” she explained.
The event nights also add to the Meadowbrook Inn’s offerings of an indoor pool and fitness center, making Meadowbrook “a really fun place to stay,” Mclean said.
“I encourage everyone to check www.blowingrock.com,” she said. “All the activities through New Year’s weekend are part of the ‘Holiday Glow Time,’ co-sponsored by the [Blowing Rock] Chamber of Commerce and the TDA [Tourism Development Authority].”
“Come to Blowing Rock to shop, eat, sightsee and enjoy the holiday glow of Blowing Rock,” she added.
