Parks and Recreation Boys’ Basketball Registration Deadline January 8

The registration deadline for Watauga County Parks and Recreation boys’ basketball is Friday, January 8. The program is open to fifth- and sixth-grade boys who are residents of Watauga County, and the fee is $55 per player.
Registration forms are available at the Watauga County Parks and Recreation office, located at 231 Complex Drive (off Hunting Hills Lane) in Boone, at Boone Mall and at the Watauga County Public Library. Forms can also be obtained online by clicking to www.wataugacounty.org, to “Parks and Recreation” and then to “Forms.”
“Be sure to get registration in on time,” advised Amy Parsons, program assistant with Watauga County Parks and Recreation.
“We can’t guarantee [the player] will be put on a team with his schoolmates if his registration is not in by January 8,” Parsons said, explaining that the teams are formed based on the public school that students attend, or on the geographical area for home school students.
Teams meet around four times each week during the season, which runs six to eight weeks—usually from the end of January until early March, Parsons said.
Most teams play games on Saturday mornings and on one night of the week, and practices are held once or twice during the week, she said.
The league is sponsored through the NBA Charlotte Bobcats, and games take place at the Old Cove Creek Gym and at area schools.
