Blowing Rock Jazz Hosts January Jam Sunday
Jazz musician Todd Wright will lead the January Jam, an open jam session of local and regional jazz artists presented by the Blowing Rock Jazz Society.
A genuine jazz jam session will materialize this Sunday, January 24, at the Meadowbrook Inn in Blowing Rock at the Blowing Rock Jazz Society’s monthly concert.
The annual January Jam will take place from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 for the general public, $5 for students and free for Jazz Society members.
“This is sort of a tradition that I put together almost 10 years ago,” said Fred Germann, president and founder of the Blowing Rock Jazz Society. A core group of jazz musicians led by saxophonist Todd Wright will be joined throughout the evening by talented regional and local performers, including vocalists and instrumentalists.
“It’s kind of an open jam session,” Germann said. “There’s no format; it’s wide open and just really exciting.”
Joining Wright will be Andy Page on guitar, Ron Brendle on bass and Rick Dilling on drums.
“This is just basically an open jam,” Wright said. “The exciting thing about it is we don’t know who’s going to show up until they do.
“We’re just going to put it together at that given moment,” he added.
Blowing Rock Jazz Society concerts typically take place on the second Sunday of each month. Upcoming performers in 2010 include the ASU jazz ensemble, Wendy Hayes, Jack Wilkins, the Page Brothers, the Noel Freidline Quintet and others.
Call the Meadowbrook Inn at 828-295-4300 for reservations. Reservations will be held until 6:30 p.m. and will not be taken on the day of the concert.
