Haiti Emergency Relief Fund Benefits Friday and Saturday
Friday Event at Char in Boone, Saturday Event at Hearthstone Tavern in Banner Elk
On January 12, a 7.0 earthquake hit Haiti, causing thousands—if not tens of thousands—of deaths and leaving a wide swath of destruction that is mobilizing global citizens to take action and help out.
A chance for local residents to help support relief efforts will take place this Friday and Saturday, January 22 and 23, as local activist Lynne Lear and local nonprofit Wine to Water are teaming up for two benefits, where 100 percent of proceeds will go to Wine to Water’s Haiti Emergency Relief Fund, of which 100 percent goes to Haiti.
Lear and Wine to Water’s Laura Lopp are organizing the benefits, which will take place this Friday at Char Restaurant, located at 179 Howard Street in Boone, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and this Saturday at Hearthstone Tavern & Grille, located at 3990 Highway 105 South in Banner Elk, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Both benefits feature a $10 suggested donation—but attendees are asked to donate more if possible—and include a wine and beer tasting, live music, a silent auction and food. If residents have silent auction items they would like to donate, call Lear at 423-794-8825.
