ASU Theatre & Dance Presents Student Showcase February 10 to 13
Kasey Lowry is among the performers in ASU’s Student Showcase Wednesday through Saturday, February 10 to 13, sponsored by the Department of Theatre and Dance.
The Department of Theatre and Dance at ASU will display student talent and creativity at I.G. Greer Studio Theatre Wednesday through Saturday, February 10 to 13, as part of a Student Showcase.
Shows begin at 7:00 p.m. each night, and general admission tickets are $5.
“We had an opening in our schedule and decided to give [students] a chance to do something,” said Alice Neff, adjunct instructor in the Theatre and Dance department. “Anyone could submit a proposal of a piece to include. It’s all student work.”
This event is separate from the Freshman Showcase held every year and includes work by students of all class levels.
Victor Rivera, Ryan Sheehe and Josh Warthen portray 15 different characters in “15 Minute Hamlet” by Tom Stoppard. Steve Boykin choreographed the piece “A Choice to Be Made,” in which four dancers reflect the body’s reaction to grief.
Choreographers and dancers Dani Harris, Lisa Mahedy and Joanna Faulkenberry perform “A Vivid Tread” to live music by Will Willard. Jacqui Bryant choreographed “Great Expectations,” a work addressing the events in our lives and the expectations and responses we have of ourselves and others.
The improvisational group NouN will perform a unique piece each evening. Delighting local audiences since 1999, NouN is ASU’s only improv drama troupe. They perform regularly at Legends in Boone and will perform at the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival next month. For more information about NouN, click to www.noun.appstate.edu.
Season sponsors of the Department of Theatre and Dance are Boone Bagelry, Joe’s Italian Kitchen and Stick Boy Bread Company.
