Blowing Rock Chamber Plans Blue Ridge Heritage Day for Fall
Street Festival Will Celebrate Blue Ridge Parkway’s 75th Anniversary

The Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Blowing Rock Historical Society and the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum, has announced plans for Blue Ridge Heritage Day, a street festival in Blowing Rock scheduled for Saturday, September 18.
Chamber representatives appeared before the Blowing Rock Town Council February 9 to request the closure of Main Street for the festival, which is a town-wide celebration of the Blue Ridge Parkway’s 75th anniversary.
The council unanimously approved the closure of Main Street from Sunset Drive to Chestnut Drive for the festival. As many as 70 craft and food vendors will be located on Main Street during the event.
Highlights of the event will include speeches by dignitaries, a parade of cars representing the past 75 years, a performance stage at Laurel Lane and Main Street, old-fashioned games in Memorial Park, a covered dish picnic at Davant Field and Rotary Pavillion and an evening dance.
Rita Davis, immediate past president of the Blowing Rock Chamber, said the chamber believes Blue Ridge Heritage Day will bring many first-time visitors to Blowing Rock and will help associate the town with the Blue Ridge Parkway in the minds of tourists.
The chamber will provide a progress update to the council in June. Council Member Jim Steele requested that the chamber prepare a budget detailing the town’s and chamber’s expenses for the festival. Davis said the chamber will compensate the town for any unreasonable expenses.
