Help Banner Elk Celebrate Its 100th Birthday
Centennial Planning Meeting February 16
Incorporated in 1911, the Town of Banner Elk will celebrate its Centennial next year—but the party planning starts now. The town will hold a planning meeting for the 2011 Centennial celebration on Tuesday, February 16, at 4:30 p.m. at Banner Elk Town Hall.
“[Town Manager John Mejaski] wanted to get started early,” said Nancy Owen, an administrative assistant for the town. “He wants to have a big celebration.”
Local citizens, anyone with ideas for celebration events and anyone who would like to help with the Centennial celebration is invited to attend the meeting on Tuesday. Owen said that a Centennial planning committee will be formed.
In addition to local citizens, the town will include organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce and Lees-McRae College in coordinating the Centennial. Owen said the town has not yet determined if the Centennial celebration will be a yearlong series of events or events concentrated within a shorter period.
“We encourage everyone to come out and help plan a great celebration,” Owen said.
Anyone who is interested in helping to plan the Centennial but cannot attend the February 16 meeting should contact Mejaski at 828-898-5398. Banner Elk Town Hall is located at 200 Park Avenue.
