Other Galleries Hosting Events February 19
This Friday, February 12, ArtWalk will feature the mixed media work of Banner Elk artist Tammy Brinkley. Due to inclement weather, the Downtown Boone Art Crawl originally scheduled for February 5 was postponed until this Friday, February 12. The Art Crawl, sponsored by the Downtown Boone Development Assocation, begins around 6:00 p.m. and continues throughout the evening. For more information, call 828-262-4532.
In honor of Valentine’s Day, ArtWalk will feature Banner Elk mixed media artist Tammy Brinkley. To make each of her unique creations, Brinkley uses bits of newspaper, books and other found and decorative papers to create a ground on which she paints in vibrant, uplifting colors. Found objects also appear in a few pieces.
Her subjects often refer to the house and home or family life, offer encouraging phrases or feature ethereal images such as angles, as well as images from childhood stories, including princesses, mermaids and fairies.
In addition to her original collages, both large and small, she has also made available clay rings and pins covered with decoupaged words, mixed media ornaments, magnets, prints and greeting cards displaying reproductions of her pieces. Brinkley’s works are located on ArtWalk’s main level.
Lucky Penny, Shear Shakti and 641 rpm will present “Lovey,” an Art Crawl Fashion Show featuring “amazing hair, fashion and music,” beginning at 8:30 p.m. at Lucky Penny, located at 693 West King Street. In conjunction with the event, the Nthº Gallery and Studios—located at 683 West King Street above Loretta’s Vendetta—will be open, featuring works by Austin Kowitz and Matt Keefer.
Gladiola Girls will be open from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. during the Art Crawl and will feature “draw your own discounts.” In addition, 30 percent of the evening’s sales will be donated to three charities: Theo’s Work, Inc., a nonprofit organization founded to help the poor of Haiti; Reconstruction Efforts Aiding Children Without Homes; and Wine to Water.
