The Summit Trail Solarium at ASU provides wedding space that is sheltered from the elements but includes outdoor features such as trees, waterfalls, plants and large windows. The Solarium, located inside Plemmons Student Union, will soon be available for wedding receptions for ASU alumni, faculty, staff and students. The student union will host the ASU Wedding Expo this Sunday, February 21, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Solarium, which is located on the first floor of the building.
“Since its opening, the Plemmons Student Union Solarium has been admired for its beauty,” said Dave Robertson, director of Plemmons Student Union, in a press release. “Many members of the Appalachian family have asked to use this space for wedding receptions, and now we’ve decided to take the plunge.”
The expo will provide information about wedding venue and catering options at the Solarium and at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center, which is also available to the general public. Attendees can view the Solarium facility, learn about cost and scheduling details, sample reception food and wedding cake from Appalachian Food Services and even book an event.
“Together with the Broyhill Inn, we can meet almost any need for a truly special wedding experience,” Robertson said on a webpage for the expo.
The Todd Wright Band will perform jazz during the event, and local wedding professionals will also be present.
The Solarium will become available for wedding receptions beginning in May and will be available on most Saturdays from May through July and on some Saturdays from August through November. Other venues in the student union will be available for rehearsal dinners on the Fridays preceding the Saturday receptions.
The ASU Wedding Expo is not a drop-in event; attendees are asked to call Christine Gonzales at 828-262-3030 to reserve a seat by this Thursday, February 18, and to arrive early at the event. Parking for the ASU Wedding Expo will be available at the College Street parking deck, located next to Belk Library.
