Trivia Challenge To Benefit Caregiver Foundation February 27
As evidenced by the popularity of trivia nights at local bars and restaurants, High Country residents love any chance to show off their stockpiles of random knowledge and useless information.
But on Saturday, February 27, trivia lovers will finally have an opportunity to put their skills to good use when the High Country Caregiver Foundation hosts its semi-annual Trivia Challenge. The event takes place at La Quinta Inn & Suites on Highway 105 Extension in Boone beginning at 6:00 p.m.
The cost is $20 per player, which includes soft drinks and light food from Subway. A cash bar will also be available. Jim Marsh, a veteran TV anchor, will host the event.
“We are excited about having our third Trivia Challenge,” said Carol G. Schaffer, vice president of the Caregiver Foundation Board of Directors. “The whole thing is funny—everybody laughs the whole night.”
A reception takes place from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., with trivia beginning at 7:00 p.m.
The Trivia Challenge will consist of four rounds, with 20 general knowledge questions in each round. Mulligans can be purchased for $10 apiece—teams can submit a mulligan with their answer sheets to receive an extra point for the round. Prizes will be awarded after each round, and the winning team will take home a trophy.
Five to 10 players are allowed per team. If you can’t assemble a team on your own, don’t worry—just show up and you will be placed on a team. About 100 people participated on 10 teams at the last Trivia Challenge, Schaffer said.
“We hope we can get a few more this time,” she said.
The event will also feature a raffle drawing for prizes including gift baskets and dinners at area restaurants.
La Quinta Inn & Suites and Subway help sponsor the event. The snow date is Saturday, March 13.
The High Country Caregiver Foundation is a nonprofit established in 2005 for the sole purpose of raising funds for a much-needed respite for caregivers. With a $500 voucher, a caregiver can choose to have his or her loved one cared for at home, in an assisted-living or nursing facility or in an adult daycare setting. The care can last for a few hours while she or he runs errands or for a few days while she or he goes away on a family vacation.
“Our charity has now provided respite to nearly 70 families in Watauga and Avery counties,” said Schaffer.
