Many of this winter’s snow and ice events have fallen on weekends—and that means many High Country organizations have been forced to postpone entertainment events, fundraisers and other gatherings. Mark your calendars—it looks like April and May are going to very busy this year…
Watauga Arts Council Artfull Palette
January 15 Friday, March 12
The Artfull Palette, an annual fundraising event for the Watauga Arts Council, was postponed in January because of inclement weather and rescheduled to Friday, March 12, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Rosen Concert Hall on the ASU campus.
The event includes music and dance performances, a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Tickets are $40 per person or $75 per couple through March 5 and $45 and $85, respectively, thereafter. For more info, call 828-264-1789 or click to www.watauga-arts.org.
Harold Holzer Lecture on Lincoln
February 8 Tuesday, March 30
The Distinguished Lecture Series at ASU presents Lincoln historian Harold Holzer at Farthing Auditorium on Tuesday, March 30—rescheduled from the original date of February 8. Holzer will give a talk titled “Why Lincoln Matters—To History, To Our Presidents, and Us” at 8:00 p.m.

Farmers’ Market/Rummage Sale
February 20 Sometime in April

Blue Ridge Conference on Resilience
January 30 Saturday, April 10
The Blue Ridge Conference on Resilience—a summit hosted by MountainKeepers to generate ideas about how to become a more resilient community—was rescheduled from January 30 to Saturday, April 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Watauga High School cafeteria.

The Wailers
February 10 Saturday, April 10
A February 10 concert by The Wailers has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 10, at Legends at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for students in advance and $14 for the public and at the door. Perpetual GroovePerpetual Groove
February 18 Tuesday, April 20
Perpetual Groove has hooked fans with their mixed sound of Southern rock, funk, jazz and indie rock for more than 13 years. The band’s February 18 concert at Legends on the ASU campus was rescheduled to Tuesday, April 20, at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for students in advance and $12 for the public and at the door. Hearts of Hospitality Ball
February 6 Friday, May 14
The 15th Annual Hearts of Hospitality Ball was rescheduled due to poor weather conditions that hit the High Country on the weekend of February 6. The event will take place on Friday, May 14, at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center.
Attendees will enjoy music by Todd Wright Band, dinner, a silent auction and a lively dance contest. Tickets are $75 per person ($50 tax deductible). Purchase tickets by calling Rose Bridgeman at 828-264-2733.
All proceeds benefit the Hospitality House, a nonprofit crisis intervention agency that provides shelter and services to the homeless, operates a community soup kitchen and administers a local crisis assistance program.

Heritage Hall Theatre in Mountain City had to postpone a bluegrass concert with Kody Norris and the Watauga Mountain Boys originally scheduled for February 6. The rescheduled date is Saturday, May 22, at 7:00 p.m.
Norris and his popular bluegrass band are known for their hard-driving, traditional mountain sound with a new twist. The band has performed at The Smithsonian, the Kennedy Center and on the TV show “Cumberland Bluegrass,” as well as with Ralph Stanley as the lead singer.
