The Lambda Phi Chapter of the Delta Zeta Sorority at ASU will host its 4th annual 5K walk/run, the Turtle Trot, to benefit ASU’s Communication Disorders Clinic on Saturday, March 20. Race registration begins at 9:00 a.m. and the race, which takes place at Boone’s Greenway Trail by State Farm Fields, starts at 11:00 a.m.
Early registration is $12 for students and $15 for the general public through Saturday, March 13, and $15 for students and $18 for the general public who register after that day.
“We had 300 runners last year,” said Lindsay Maddux, the sorority’s chair and race coordinator.
“This year our goal is $10,000,” Maddux said, adding that the race raised $8,000 last year.
According to a press release, 90 percent of race proceeds benefit the clinic, which is a nonprofit organization that provides services to adults and children with speech, language, reading and hearing disabilities, regardless of the family’s income. The remaining 10 percent of proceeds benefit the Delta Zeta Foundation, which supports Gallaudet University and House Ear Institute.
Each runner will receive a T-shirt and race bag, and the top three male and female finishers will win plaques. Age group winners will receive prizes, Maddux said.
After the race ends and before the awards ceremony begins, musical entertainment will be provided by a DJ and by Higher Ground, a singing group at ASU, she said.
“Friends for Life will bring dogs that you can adopt or walk, [and] ASU Recycling will bring recycling containers and promote recycling throughout the race and after the race,” she said.
