The High Country Heart Breakfast will take place this Friday, March 12, from 7:00 to 9:30 a.m. at Appalachian/Brian Estates, located at 163 Shadowline Drive in Boone.
The minimum requested donation is $6, and 100 percent of proceeds benefit the Community Care Clinic, which provides medical services to people who do not have health insurance, said Rick Looper, executive director of Appalachian/Brian Estates.
“Each year a different organization gets chosen,” Looper said.
The 19th annual breakfast was originally scheduled for February 12 this year and was postponed because of inclement weather. Appalachian/Brian Estates, Hardee’s of Boone, the Watauga County Chapter of the American Red Cross and Watauga County Healthy Carolinians sponsor the event.
Breakfast foods are provided courtesy of Hardee’s of Boone, PET Dairy, Hollar and Greene Produce, Williams Produce, S&D Coffee, the Sara Lee Corporation, Goodnight Brothers, Meadow Brook Meat Corporation, Ingles and Food Lion, Looper said.
The Kiwanis Club of Boone will provide labor—bussing tables and setting out food—and members of the Action Club of Boone, an organization for intellectually disabled adults sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, will also help with the breakfast he added.
Appalachian/Brian Estates “residents look forward to it [and] will serve as greeters,” he said.
Free blood pressure checks, heart healthy information and CPR demonstrations are available during the event, and representatives of the health department will check cholesterol and blood sugar levels for a small fee.
