Climate economist Jason Shogren will speak on “Climate Policy: Pre- and Post-Copenhagen” on Wednesday, March 17, at 5:00 p.m. in Room 114 of Belk Library and Information Commons at ASU.
The talk is open to the public, and is sponsored by ASU’s Research Institute for Environment, Energy and Economics.
Shogren is the Stroock Professor of Natural Resource Conservation and Management at the University of Wyoming and a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). He is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, a former senior economist on the Council of Economic Advisors in the Clinton White House and a recipient of a Royal Appointment as Professor to the King of Sweden.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee named members of the IPCC, along with former Vice President Al Gore, as recipients of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
As a member of the IPCC, and one of the lead authors of the panel’s third assessment report in 2001, Shogren is among an elite group of scientists who shared the award with Gore. Shogren’s contributions included work on a chapter that looked at the cost and benefits of climate control.
Shogren’s lecture is the first in a continuing lecture series that will feature leading experts in the area of environmental and energy policy. The lecture series is supported by the Appalachian Energy Center, in collaboration with departments on campus.
