Easter Egg Hunts in the High Country

Easter falls on Sunday, April 4, this year, but High Country Easter egg hunts start well before then. It’s time to dig up the bunny, chick or duck outfits, grab the Easter baskets and start making plans to hunt for eggs.
Sunday, March 21
Easter Egg Hunt at Sugar Mountain Resort
This Sunday, March 21, Sugar Mountain Resort will host its 4th annual Easter egg hunt on the slopes. A “golden egg” containing a 2010-11 season pass will be scattered among hundreds of fun-filled plastic eggs spread over the lower portion of the Lower Flying Mile slope.
In addition to the “golden egg,” ten plastic eggs containing complimentary midweek, day 2010-11 lift/slope vouchers and five plastic eggs containing complimentary anytime, day 2010-11 lift/slope vouchers will be hidden.
Participants will load the Summit No. 1 lift promptly at 9:00 a.m., unload at mid-station and meet at the Easter egg hunt start line, which will be clearly visible from the Summit No. 1 lift on Lower Flying Mile.
As soon as all participants have gathered, the hunt will begin. Participants must be 12 years or younger, and a valid slope pass and skis or a snowboard are required to participate. Prizes will be awarded to the top three costumes, which will be judged on creativity, and all participants will receive a complimentary ice skating voucher for next season.

Easter Egg Hunt in Blowing Rock
The annual Easter Egg Hunt in Blowing Rock will take place Saturday, March 27, in Memorial Park. Games will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the hunt will begin at 11:00 a.m. The hunt is open to children 12 and younger, and the free event includes a special visit from the Easter Bunny. Downtown Boone Easter Egg-Stravaganza
The Downtown Boone Development Association, The Jones House Community Center and the Watauga County Public Library, in conjunction with many local business sponsors, will host the Easter Egg-Stravaganza that begins at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, at the Watauga County Library in Boone.
Puppet shows and arts and crafts will entertain the children until 2:15 p.m., at which time the Easter Parade to the Jones House Community Center begins. The Easter egg hunt starts at 2:30 p.m., and children up to age 10 will search for candy-filled eggs and “golden eggs” that can be traded for a prize from area merchants.
In case of bad weather, all activities will take place at the Watauga County Public Library, and the decision on the bad weather plan will be made by 10:00 a.m. on the day of the event. For more information, call 828-262-4532.

Easter Extravaganza at Appalachian Ski Mountain
Don’t miss all the Easter fun on Saturday, April 3, at Appalachian Ski Mountain. Bring your camera and join the Easter Bunny for pictures on the slopes. Two children’s Easter egg hunts will take place that include lots of hidden prizes, such as a 2010-11 Junior Season Membership.
More than 1,000 Easter eggs with candy and prizes will be spread around Appalachian’s intermediate slope Strudel, and the hunt begins at 9:30 a.m. for skiers and riders ages 6 to 12. At 11:30 a.m., children ages 5 and under can find Easter eggs on the grassy knoll beside the Appalachian Ice Arena.
A raw egg toss contest will begin at 2:00 p.m. for participants 12 and up, and prizes will be awarded for the longest toss and the biggest splash. Appalachian’s restaurant will also offer a special a la carte Easter Brunch with several dining options.
