Hayes School of Music This Week

The Hayes School of Music features a flurry of student recitals in the next week, in addition to performances by a saxophone choir and student jazz combos.
Unless otherwise indicated, concerts take place in the Broyhill Music Center on the ASU campus. For more information about any of these performances, call 828-262-3020.
Student Euphonium Recital Thursday
Senior education major Jack Wooten performs a euphonium recital this Thursday, March 18, at 6:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall. Admission is free.
Student Flute Recital Thursday
Flutist Katie Grunwald, a senior music performance major, will present a recital this Thursday, March 18, at 8:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall. Admission is free.
Student Piano Recital Friday
Jonathan Carter, a senior music performance major, presents a piano recital in the Recital Hall this Friday, March 19, at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free.
Student Percussion Recital Friday
Senior music performance major Will Miller will perform a recital on percussion at 8:00 p.m. this Friday, March 19, in the Recital Hall. Admission is free.
Student Piano and Voice Recital
Senior music performance major Lindsey Vickers and senior music performance major Epiphany Bayliff will perform a joint piano and voice recital this Sunday, March 21, at 2:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall. Admission is free.
Student Flute Recital Sunday
Rebecca Jordan, flutist, presents a recital this Sunday, March 21, at 4:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall. Jordan is a senior music performance major. Admission is free.
Student Trumpet and Sax Recital Sunday
This Sunday, March 21, at 6:00 p.m., senior music education major Crystal Ritchie and senior music education major Travis Pike will present a joint trumpet and saxophone recital in the Recital Hall. Admission is free.
Saxophone Choir March 22
Scott Kallestad conducts the saxophone choir in a performance of chamber music on Monday, March 22, at 8:00 p.m. in Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.
The 12-member saxophone choir is an ensemble in the Hayes School of Music. The program includes “Smiles and Chuckles” by F. Henri Klickmann, Domenico Scarlatti’s “Sonata, K. 525,” Isaac Albeniz’s “Sevilla,” Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Fugue No. 22” from the “Well-Tempered Clavichord” and“Jupiter” from Gustav Holst’s “The Planets.”
Student Piano Recital March 23
Elizabeth Salter, a music performance graduate student, presents a piano recital on Tuesday, March 23, at 6:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall. Admission is free.
Phi Mu Alpha Pledge Recital March 23
Members of the Phi Mu Alpha Pledge Class will perform in the Recital Hall on Tuesday, March 23, at 8:00 p.m. Admission is free.
Phi Mu Alpha is a national music fraternity founded in 1898 at the New England Conservatory of Music. The fraternity is the largest music fraternity in the world. The ASU chapter was founded in 1967.
Student Piano and Voice Recital March 24
Music education and music performance major Matthew Snow and senior music education major Joshua Finkler will present a joint piano and voice recital on Wednesday, March 24, at 6:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall. Admission is free.
Jazz Combos March 24
Jazz combos from the Hayes School of Music will perform at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, in the Recital Hall. Admission is free.
A jazz combo comprised of pianist Tommy Booker, guitarist Kevin Clark, bass player Derek Cohen and drummer Timothy Roberts will perform John Coltrane’s “Ladybird,” Kevin Clark’s “Guess What?” and “Soul Hole” and Kurt Rosenwinkel’s “East Coast Love Affair.”
A quintet comprised of trumpeter Arabo Bey, trombonist Jordan Craig, pianist Matthew Powers, bass player Derek Cohen and drummer Will Miller will perform Sam Jones’s “Del Sasser,” Dave Samuels’s “Sadie’s Dance,” Benny Golson’s “Whisper Not,” Ramsey Lewis’s “Last Dance” and Kenny Garrett’s “Wayne’s Thing.”
