High Country Audubon To Host Weekly Bird Walks
The High Country Audubon Society will sponsor weekly bird walks at the Valle Crucis Community Park beginning Wednesday, March 24, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. The walks will continue every Wednesday afterward.
Curtis Smalling, important bird areas coordinator and mountain program manager for Audubon North Carolina, will lead the weekly walks, which will serve as informative opportunities for beginner and expert birders. Valle Crucis Community Park has a significant variety of birds.
The High Country Audubon Society is a local chapter of The National Audubon Society that includes five northwestern North Carolina counties—Avery, Ashe, Alleghany, Watauga and Wilkes counties.
The organization offers monthly chapter meetings and field trip designed to encourage beginning birders and experts alike to engage in conservation, education and research for the birds of Western North Carolina. The annual membership fee is $10.
