The Charlotte-based group The New Familiars will play Boone Saloon on Thursday, March 25, at 10:00 p.m. The cover for the 21-and-up show is $5.
The band is currently touring in support of its new, live CD, and has traveled the East Coast and Southeast. The New Familiars is comprised of Josh Daniel on vocals, resonator and guitar; Justin Fedor on vocals, guitar, mandolin and banjo; Daniel Flynn on drums; and Pat Maholland on bass.
Flynn described the group’s sound as “rock and roll. It does have an Americana, folk-sided flavor. We can make people dance and move acoustically just as well as we can electrically.
“If you haven’t come to see the show, come see the show,” Flynn said. “If you’ve seen us, come see us again. If we didn’t get you hooked before, we’ll more than likely get you hooked this time.”
Since Flynn joined the four-year-old project two years ago, “it has evolved a lot,” he said. “We come from so many different [musical] backgrounds. It kind of all meets in the middle.
“It’s been a crazy ride,” he said of his time with the band so far. “Lots of miles traveled. We do 150 to 180 shows a year.”
The group expects to release a full-length CD later this year, according to a press release.
“We’re really hard workers,” Flynn said. “We love what we do. We love getting people involved. We’re giving it all we’ve got.”
Creative Loafing, a Charlotte publication, named The New Familiars “Best Local Band of 2008,” stating: “The band’s take on Americana and folk gets infused with a good bit of rock ethic and rhythms that can give you goose bumps…Catch ‘em on the cheap while you can!”
