Adam Linker, policy analyst for the North Carolina Justice Center, will speak on healthcare reform legislation at the ReelHouse Cinema & Draft, located at 215 Boone Heights Drive in Boone, this Friday, May 21, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. The event is free and everyone in the community is invited to attend. Lunch can be purchased from the ReelHouse.

The N.C. Justice Center has “been on the forefront of the healthcare reform debate, [and] they were actually one of the first groups to send out information on the legislation,” said Bryan Belcher, manager of North Carolina Healthy Carolinians.

The event will take place at “a neutral community spot, [and] it’s not a political ‘yay’ or ‘nay,’ just a nonpartisan view on what people can expect,” Belcher said.

“I think there’s more misinformation than information floating around at this point,” he added. “This county is about 28 percent uninsured, so this legislation is really going to affect this area.

“[Linker] will be telling you what you as an individual can expect,” Belcher continued, adding that he will also outline what to look for in the near future as details of the legislation get hammered out and start to become enacted.

“If people have questions, this is their chance to ask an expert,” he said, adding that he is excited to bring in a speaker “to talk about a 2,400-page piece of legislation.”

Watauga County Healthy Carolinians, Appalachian District Health Department, ASU’s Institute for Health and Human Services, Appalachian Regional Healthcare System and the ReelHouse sponsor the event.
