Blue Ridge Parkway Author Chats in Blowing Rock Sunday
Anne Mitchell Whisnant, author of Super-Scenic Motorway: A Blue Ridge Parkway History, will give a free informal talk at the American Legion Hall in Blowing Rock this Sunday, July 18.
This Sunday, July 18, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., the Blowing Rock Historical Society will host Anne Mitchell Whisnant, author of Super-Scenic Motorway: A Blue Ridge Parkway History, at the American Legion Hall on Wallingford Street in downtown Blowing Rock.
Whisnant will be the first speaker in a series called “Parkway Chat,” a free informal program about the challenges and the future of the Parkway. Accompanying her will be her husband, David Whisnant, who co-authored a children’s book on the Parkway, When the Parkway Came.
As the foremost authority on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Whisnant will share her vast knowledge and basic background information on the beginnings of this famous road, a national treasure that is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
“This is certainly a special treat to have Ms. Whisnant with us,” stated Ginny Stevens, president of the Historical Society. “We have long admired her extensive research and outstanding book and eagerly invite the community to meet her and learn more about the background of the Parkway.
The next Parkway Chat on Sunday, July 23, will feature Philip T. Noblitt, author of A Mansion in the Mountains—The Story of Moses and Bertha Cone and Their Blowing Rock Manor.
