Photo Courtesy of The Dande LionOn Friday, August 6, the Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation will host the 33rd annual Blowing Rock Fashion Show and Luncheon. The Blowing Rock Country Club serves as the venue for the event that features the fashion show, a silent auction, plus a luncheon. Proceeds for the fundraiser will be donated to Blowing Rock Hospital. The money will be used to purchase new beds for the patients, located in the Davant Extended Care Unit at Blowing Rock Hospital. For this 2010 fashion show, The Dande Lion in Banner Elk is providing the clothing, accessories and shoes featured on the runway.
“We’re very excited about the theme this year,” said Jane Deavers, owner of The Dande Lion. “We’re featuring Dande Lion fashions for each and every day of the year.”
Deavers and her store staff have hand picked the styles and they will be modeled by High Country residents and store patrons. Shoes, handbags, scarves and jewelry from The Dande Lion will be employed to compliment and complete each outfit. Deavers made the decision to become involved in the foundation, following the illness of her husband. By participating in the fundraiser, Deavers said she can give back to the community in a big way.
“It’s such a comfort to have good facilities,” she said.
Besides providing the fashions and organizing the show, The Dande Lion is donating an outfit in its entirety for the silent auction. Another donation is for the Dande Lion Diva Night, slated for the Patron’s Gala, held prior to the fashion show.
This year is the last year in a three-year fundraising campaign. Forty beds were purchased with the money raised from 2008 and 2009 and the hospital would like to add 20 more this year. Each regular bed costs $2,500, with pressure relief beds—used for patients suffering from bedsores—costing $5,000. The new beds are desirable because they are designed to be safer than the ones currently in use, as they help prevent falls and they have been proven to be more comfortable.
Tickets for the fashion show and luncheon cost $60 and include a champagne reception.
The Patron’s Gala
If you would like to go a step further in supporting the fundraising cause for new hospital beds, a special black-tie Patron’s Gala will be held the evening before the fashion show, on Thursday, August 5. Gala features include music by The Lucky Strikes and a dinner prepared by Chef George Myers. Attendees can plan on being photographed by the paparazzi and they will also have the opportunity to bid on four, live auction items, including dinner for eight prepared in your home by Chef George Myers and Lee Ann Myers, a one week stay at Seabrook Island, a one week stay at an interval international location and The Dande Lion Diva Package. The Diva package includes limousine transport for eight friends for a private two-hour shopping experience at The Dande Lion, special stylists, wine, hors d’oeuvres and special discounts. Winners should also be ready to roll the Diva Dice, a classic Dande Lion sale: Each patron is permitted to roll three times, with the highest roll of any of the three constituting the percentage off their purchase.
