Artists’ Group in Residence at Edgewood Cottage August 2 to 8
Nancy Cope, Betsy Harris and Janie Endress, three artists from a women’s artist group in Blowing Rock, will display and discuss their work at the historic Edgewood Cottage Monday, August 2, through Sunday, August 8.The Blowing Rock Historical Society continues several weeks of artists’ residencies at Edgewood Cottage with three artists from an artists’ group in Blowing Rock from Monday to Sunday, August 2 to 8.
They will be in residence from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday. The public can observe and visit with the artists for free during those hours.
The Historical Society hosts 12 local artists during eight weeks of artists’ residencies at the historic Edgewood Cottage this summer. Edgewood Cottage is the restored former home and studio of the late artist Elliott Daingerfield, a noted Victorian artist.
Three artists from the artists’ group will be in residence from August 2 to 8, and three other artists from the group will be in residence the following week. The first three will be Nancy Cope, Janie Endress and Betsy Harris, who will provide an interesting variation on canvas/paper art.
They are part of a group of women who meet once a week to do art projects together. A few ladies living in Blowing Rock year round and who enjoyed painting together formed the group about six years ago to have an activity in the winter. Later, several summer residents also joined the group.
Occasionally they paint in one another’s home studios but mainly at the Community Club. Some have received formal training while others are self-taught. A few have taught or owned galleries, but all share the love of art as well as techniques learned in workshops and classes along the way.
Oil, acrylics, watercolor and collage are some of the media used. Janice Carter, Endress, Cindy Kebelbeck and Kathy Leahey live in Blowing Rock year round, while Cope and Harris are summer residents.
Edgewood Cottage is located at the corner of Chestnut Street and South Main Street in Blowing Rock. The Blowing Rock Historical Society and Cheap Joe’s Art Supplies sponsor the exhibit. For more information, call Ginny Stevens at 828-295-3021.
