Boone Council Considers Transportation Priorities
Boone Public Works Director Blake Brown on July 20 presented recommendations to the council from the Alternative Transportation Subcommittee of the town’s Transportation Committee.
The subcommittee established as immediate priorities the following projects:
1. Highway 105. Complete sidewalk from High School Drive to old High Country Inn property.
2. State Farm Road. Install sidewalk from Deerfield Road to Boone Heights Drive on the north side and from Boone Heights Drive to Shadowline Drive on the south side. Create crosswalks at the intersection of State Farm Road and Boone Heights Drive.
3. Hunting Hills Lane. Install sidewalk from State Farm Road to the Greenway Trail on the side where the playground is located.
4. Boone Heights Drive. Install sidewalk from Blowing Rock Road to State Farm Road on the west side.
These projects were identified by the subcommittee as future priorities:
5. Highway 194. Install sidewalk from Highway 421 to New Market Boulevard on the west side.
6. Blairmont Road. Install sidewalk from State Farm Road to Blairmont Road.
7. Meadowview Road. Extend sidewalk from Greenway Road to Blowing Rock Road.
8. Highway 105. Continue to develop sidewalks from old High Country Inn site to Highway 105 Bypass intersection. Install sidewalks from Blowing Rock Road to Highway 421 on the east side and from Highland Avenue to the Highway 105 bypass on the west side.
And the subcommittee identified the following projects as projects to continue to pursue:
9. Poplar Grove Road. Extend sidewalk from Water Street to the Poplar Grove Road Extension. Continue to work with DOT and engineers on plans and then pursue right-of-way, easements and encroachment agreements for more sidewalks along Poplar Grove Road.
10. Wellness Center Connector. Establish a connector from the Broyhill Wellness Center on Boone Heights Drive to the Greenway Trail.
11. Greenway Road Connector. Extend the Greenway Trail along Greenway Road to Highway 105.
