Here’s a listing of free concerts—most are outdoors—in the High Country in the next couple of weeks. Don’t forget your blanket or lawn chair.
Banner Elk Concerts in the Park—Thursday and August 5
Presented by the Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce, the Summer Concerts in the Park series takes place every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Tate-Evans Park off of Highway 194. Food vendors will be on site, or bring your own picnic.
This Thursday, July 29, the featured performer is Dallas Reese. Reese is a singer-songwriter who grew up in Concord. He has been performing as a solo acoustic artist around the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic since graduating from ASU. Appearing with Dallas Reese are Doug Karger on drums and Rob Massengale on bass. Reese will play keys and guitar and sing. The concert is sponsored by Fifth Third Bank.

Todd General Store—Friday
This Friday at Todd General Store in Todd, enjoy free bluegrass music by the Worthless Son-in-Laws. Come early for good seating. Dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m., and music will follow at 7:00 p.m. For info, call 336-877-1067.
Concerts on the Lawn—Friday and August 6
This Friday, July 30, the Watauga Arts Council’s Concerts on the Lawn series will showcase old-time music by the Elkville String Band and Jim Lloyd and Trevor McKenzie.
On Friday, August 6, the Worthless Son-in-Laws and Danny Whittington will play on the porch. Concerts take place at the Jones House in downtown Boone beginning at 5:00 p.m. For info, call 828-264-1789.
Music in the Valle—Friday and August 6
The Music in the Valle concert series continues at Valle Crucis Community Park at 7:00 p.m. every Friday through September 10. Relax and enjoy a concert by bluegrass gospel outfit Southern Accent this Friday, July 30, followed by Rich Lerner and the Groove next Friday, August 6.

Todd Summer Music Series—Saturday
Every summer, concerts take place at Cook Memorial Park in Todd as part of the Todd Summer Music Series. The free concerts take place from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Traditional music performers Laura Boosinger and Josh Goforth will conclude the six-concert series this Saturday, July 31. Ticketed concerts by Doc Watson and Wayne Henderson will take place at the park on August 21 and September 4, respectively.

Fred’s Summer Sunday Concerts—Sunday and August 8
Fred’s General Mercantile on Beech Mountain will host Fred’s Summer Sunday Concerts on five Sundays through August 8 at 6:30 p.m. Some seats are provided, but bring a chair or blanket just in case.
The Watauga Community Band will perform this Sunday, August 1, and the final concert on August 8 features Joe Shannon and the Mountain Home All-Stars. For info, call 828-387-4838.
Monday Night Concert Series—August 2
The annual Monday Night Concert Series, sponsored by Blowing Rock Parks and Recreation, takes place in the lakeside gazebo at Broyhill Park in Blowing Rock beginning at 7:00 p.m.
The August 2 concert will feature the John T. Woodall Band, Ben Bradford, Stacey Peake and Billy Gambill. In case of rain, concerts will move to the American Legion Hall off of Park Avenue. For info, call 828-295-5222.
