Plenty of residents and visitors were already planning on attending the Village of Sugar Mountain’s 25th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, August 7, but the attendance is sure to increase when people learn that, if they make a hole-in-one that day on one of Sugar’s back nine holes, they will win a $10,000 vacation package from Sandals Resorts.

That enticing vacation package is one of many prizes and joins a host of fun activities planned for the celebration on August 7, which takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Sugar Mountain Clubhouse, located at 1054 Sugar Mountain Drive. The event, which is sponsored by the Village of Sugar Mountain and the Sugar Mountain Tourism Development Authority, is open to all residents and visitors and features free admission.

“We hope everyone will come to enjoy our amenities and see what Sugar Mountain has to offer,” said Tammy Floyd, who is co-organizing the event with Village Manager David Lane.

Representing the first time Sugar Mountain has hosted an anniversary celebration, the event will feature more than 17 arts and crafts vendors spread out on the grass field abutting Sugar Mountain Clubhouse. While parents shop, children will enjoy playing on four inflatable games, including two bounce houses, an inflatable side and an obstacle course. In addition, Banner Elk Elementary staff will provide face painting and washable tattoos for all children.

Boone Shag Club members will offer free lessons between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. and between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. so attendees will be ready to cut a rug during two sets of live music. The Mark Roberts Breeze Band will take the stage between 1:00 and 5:00 p.m. and The Catalinas will keep people’s toes tapping between 6:00 and 10:00 p.m. DJ George Brown, who is a member of the Association of Beech and Shag Club DJs, will keep the music flowing between sets.

Instead of food vendors, Sugar Mountain has arranged for a few restaurants to be onsite to keep the crowd well fed. Sugar Mountain Golf Club’s Caddy Shack, Roan Mountain, Tenn.’s Highlander Barbecue and Smoky Mountain Bakers, which is famous for its wood-fired pizzas, will all be in attendance. Beer will be for sale off the deck of the clubhouse all day.

Raffles will take place all day, and attendees will have a chance at dozens of top rate freebies, such as gift certificates to local restaurants and shops, three- and two-night lodging packages from local real estate companies, rounds of golf, lift rides, ice skating and snow tubing. Attendees can also take advantage of the celebration to play golf on Sugar’s golf course, where, if they make a hole-in-one on one of the course’s back nine holes, they will win a $10,000 vacation package from Sandals Resorts. Other prizes will also be awarded to golfers on that day.

In honor of the celebration, many Sugar Mountain lodging companies are offering 30 percent discounts on accommodations, including Dereka’s Sugar Mountain Accommodations, 828-898-9475; Sugar Mountain Resort Accommodations, 828-898-9746; Sugar Mountain Lodging, 828-898-7800; Sugar Ski & Country Club, 828-898-9784; and The Highlands, 828-898-9601.
