Watauga Arts Council Calls for Artists at Jones House
The Watauga County Arts Council is now accepting applications for monthlong exhibits in the Mazie Jones and Open Door Galleries in the Jones House Community Center during 2011 and 2012.
The Mazie Jones Gallery was named in honor of Mazie Jones Levenson, daughter of Boone’s first family physician, Dr. J. Walter Jones. Mazie’s foresight and love for the arts, culture and history has ensured that the Jones House exists today as a community and cultural center meeting the ever-growing need for space for meetings, events and cultural activities.
The Open Door Gallery was established in 1993 by the Watauga Arts Council’s Board of Directors and endowed with the mission of serving new and emerging artists, including student artists.
The Jones House galleries are sponsored by Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff and have been in existence since the late 1980s. The gallery program is one of the many ways the Arts Council works to serve local artists and make the “arts a presence in our community.”
Applications are available online by clicking to www.watauga-arts.org. A variety of media will be considered as well as individual, shared or group exhibitions. For more information call 828-264-1789 or email wcac@watauga-arts.org.
