Police Continue To Request Public Help Regarding Seven Devils Murder Case
Police have released a new color photo of Christopher Meade, who is charged with credit card fraud and also wanted for questioning in the death of his wife Deana Schermerhorn in 2009.Seven Devils Police and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation continue to request the public’s help in the November 2009 Deana Schermerhorn death investigation. The case received nationwide attention this past weekend when it aired on FOX’s America’s Most Wanted, and a new color photo of the victim’s husband, Christopher Meade, has been released. Investigators are urging the public to call with any information regarding his whereabouts.
Schermerhorn, 40, was last seen alive at her Seven Devils home on November 7, 2009. Friends and family began calling area police soon after when they were unable to reach Schermerhorn, Meade or Schermerhorn’s 4-year-old son, Gabriel. About a week after the disappearance, Gabriel was dropped off by Meade at his mother’s house—however, there was no sign of Schermerhorn. Meade has not been seen since.
Nearly six weeks later, on December 16, 2009, Schermerhorn’s body was discovered in a shallow grave near her home by Seven Devils Police Captain Bobby Powell. An autopsy revealed the cause of death was blunt force trauma of the head due to beating.
Meade is suspected of using his wife’s credit cards during her disappearance and has current outstanding warrants for financial card theft. Investigators also want to question him regarding his wife’s death.
Meade is a 28-year-old white male, with brown hair, blue eyes and possible facial hair. His height is estimated at 5 feet, 7 inches, and weighs approximately 140 pounds. Meade has contacts in Western North Carolina, eastern Tennessee and Virginia.
