Like the Parkway, Art in the Park has a long history in Blowing Rock. In the early 1960s, artists living in and around the village would come to the town’s park to display and sell some of their paintings or other pieces—thus Art in the Park was born.
Now in its 48th year, Art in the Park attracts artists from all over the eastern United States. This award-winning series features the works of 90 juried artisans in metal, fiber, watercolor and oil painting, wood, photography, basketry, jewelry, clay, glass and more.
As part of the Concert in the Park series, the Blue Notes Dixieland Jazz Band will play Sunday, September 12, beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Memorial Park, also in downtown Blowing Rock.
Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and enjoy the music—which is an example of the type of music that would have been popular when the idea for the Parkway was first being developed.
The Blue Notes play in the New Orleans style, featuring eight traditional jazz instruments: clarinet, trumpet, trombone, tuba, tenor sax, piano, drums and banjo. Each musician is a soloist and an ensemble player.
