Hayes School of Music This Week
Henry Lebedinsky performs on the harpsichord and clavichord this Friday, September 10, at the Turchin Center.The talented students, faculty and guests of the Hayes School of Music at ASU provide numerous performances by classically trained artists and ensembles, a unique opportunity in a small community like Boone. Henry Lebedinsky Harpsichord, Clavichord Recital Friday
Henry Lebedinsky will perform on the harpsichord and clavichord Friday, Septemeber 10, at 6:00 p.m. in the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at ASU. The Hayes School of Music sponsors the guest recital.
A native of Russia, Lebedinsky is a historical keyboardist who performs music from the court and salons of 18th-century St. Petersburg. His recital will feature works by Bortniansky, Khandoshkin, Kozlovsky, Oginsky and Palschau Saltykov, as well as works by 18th-century French composers Élisabeth-Claude Jacquet de la Guerre, Antoine Forqueray and Joseph Nicolas Pancrace Royer.
Lebedinsky is an active performer on harpsichord, clavichord and organ, both as a soloist and with the Charlotte Symphony, Seicento String Band, Wild Rose Ensemble and San Francisco’s Ensemble Vermillian.
In his spare time, he plays bouzouki and guitar with several Celtic bands, including The Quiet Men and The Beggar Boys, who were recently featured on the NPR-syndicated “A Carolina Christmas” from Biltmore Estate with Kathy Mattea. He also helps lead the biweekly Celtic sessions at Molly MacPherson’s Scottish Pub in Charlotte.
Nancy Schneeloch-Bingham Flute Recital Sunday
Dr. Nancy Schneeloch-Bingham will present a flute recital Sunday, September 12, at 4:00 p.m. in Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.
She will perform “Sonata No. 1” by Philippe Gaubert, “Concerto for Flute” by William Alwyn, Samuel Barber’s “Canzone,” Paul Schoenfield’s “Ufaratsta (Valentine)” and Joseph Schwantner’s “Black Anemones.” Christina Hayes and Susan Slingland will provide piano accompaniment.
Schneeloch-Bingham has been a member of the music faculty at ASU since 2001. She teaches flute and directs the flute ensemble in the Hayes School of Music. She also performs in the faculty woodwind quintet and with Harmonia Baroque, an early music ensemble featuring period instruments.
She has performed with the Western Piedmont Symphony, Salisbury Symphony, Tallahassee Symphony, Winston-Salem Symphony, Kingsport Symphony and the North Carolina Symphony.
Adding to her eclectic tastes in fluting, she enjoys the Irish traditional flute style and has studied with Chris Norman of the Baltimore Consort. Schneeloch-Bingham is a founding member of the Irish music band Sunday’s Well.
Faculty Recital Series September 14
The talents of music faculty from the Hayes School of Music will be showcased Tuesday, September 14, during the opening performance of the school’s Faculty Recital Series. The program begins at 8:00 p.m. in Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.
Titled “An Evening of Encores,” the program includes a variety of presentations, from a vocal quartet and a tuba and piano duo to classical guitar and keyboards.
Compositions include Frank Simon’s “Willow Echoes” performed by organist Joby Bell and cornet player James Stokes. Soprano Julia Pedigo and violinist Nancy Bargerstock will perform “Three Old English Songs.”
Guitarist Douglas James performs Francisco Tarrega’s “Capricho Arabe.” Pianist Rodney Reynerson performs “Etude in C-sharp minor, Op. 8, No. 1” and “March” from “The Love of Three Oranges.”
Vocalists Julia Pedigo, Priscilla Porterfield and Mary Gayle Greene will perform “Gypsy Song” from Carmen, with piano accompaniment by Reynerson. The evening concludes with John Weaver’s “Toccata” performed by Bell.
