Run the Railroad Grade 5K September 18
This year’s ninth Annual Railroad Grade Run 5K will be held Saturday, September 18, at 9:00 a.m. beginning at the Todd General Store located at 3866 Railroad Grade Road in Todd. The course runs beside the historic Railroad Grade Road along the New River and covers 3.1 miles on a paved road.
Registration is now ongoing, and for those who register beforehand, the cost is $17. Onsite registration will be $20. Everyone is invited to enter, whether it is for competitive or recreational reasons, including seniors, children, families and parents pushing strollers.
The race is initiated and organized by the Farm Bureau Women’s Committee. All proceeds from the run benefit the R. Flake Shaw Memorial Scholarship Program and Fund, which represents the North Carolina Farm Bureau’s investment in the field of agriculture. The scholarships are offered at $3,000 per year, are awarded each May and are renewable for up to four years. Recipients should intend to pursue a degree and career in agriculture or home economics, or be enrolled in an agriculture-related field.
Each individual registered in the 5K will receive a t-shirt and will be eligible for door prizes. There will also be post-race food and beverages, and an awards ceremony will follow the race where the top three in each age group, plus the overall male and female winners, will receive special awards.
Registration and packet pickup begins at 8:15 a.m., and parking is available at the church across from Todd General Store.
