You’ll find the sixth annual Jewelry Trunk Show at Carlton Gallery this Saturday. The monthly Greater Avery Tour de Art, a 14-stop art gallery and studio tour, takes place this Saturday, August 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with paintings, pottery, sculpture, fine art reproductions, framing and more by established and emerging artists.
Galleries may also feature refreshments, special sales and other activities. You may begin at any stop on the tour and receive a map of participating venues.
Alta Vista Gallery features oil painter Sheila Wood Hancock and her exhibition Red Barns, Red Roofs: High Country vs. French Country. Hancock, a nationally-collected painter in the traditional Impressionist style, compares the geography and architecture of the High Country to that of the French countryside in 14 new landscapes.
As a former psychologist before becoming a fulltime artist, Hancock enjoys the fact that customers say that her paintings make them feel relaxed. “That bit of red that I include adds warmth to those cool, calming colors,” Hancock said. “It gives balance.”
At the Kevin Beck Studio, Kevin Beck will display new plein air oil paintings of the summer season, and Judi Beck will offer a galley version of her new fictional work On Kiwi Wings. The couple will serve organic herbal tea from their garden.
Linville River Pottery is a working clay studio with porcelain and stoneware teapots, vases, bowls and mugs handmade on a kickwheel by Patti Connor-Greene. The studio also features colorful wall hangings by Virginia McKinney Greene. Beth Myers Glass Studio features hot, flameworked and handmade art jewelry and beads that soothe, envelop and excite the senses.
